제임스 얼 존스는 미국 연극, 영화 배우로 미국인이 제일 믿음이 가는 배우로 꼽고 있다. 그는 <Star Wars>의 다스 베이더의 목소리를 맡은 배우이다.

제임스 얼 존스는 미시간 대학을 졸업하고 한국전에도 참전하였다. 이후 미시간에서 1955-57년 시즌에 배우와 무대감독으로 공연 일을 시작하였다. 1955년 셰익스피어의 <Othello>에 처음으로 참여하였다. 그의 데뷔작인 영화는 <Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, 1964>에 출연하였다. 에미어워드, 골든 글로브 어워드, 토니어워드 등 남우주조연상을 수상하였다.
