관객과 함께 호흡하는 성악가로 대중들의 폭넓은 사랑을 받아 국민들이 가장 사랑하는 성악가 바리톤 김동규. 세계 최고의 성악 학교인 베르디 국립음악원을 수석 합격한 그는 모든 성악가들의 꿈의 무대인 라스칼라 극장에 선 최초의 한국 성악가로서 오페라 『바다의 분노』를 시작으로 『오텔로』, 『사랑의 묘약』, 『일 트로바토레』, 『세빌리아의 이발사』 등 오페라의 본고장 유럽에서 활발한 활동을 펼쳤으며 국내에서도 『메리 위도우』, 라 트라비아타』, 『리골레토』, 『토스카』 등을 선보였다.
도니제티의 <린다디 샤모니>등 6개의 오페라 음반을 내기도 한 그는 클래식 음악만을 고집하지 않고 크로스오버 앨범(DETOUR(우회))를 발표, ‘10월의 어느 멋진 날에’를 통해 대중적으로 큰 인기를 얻었다.
