일리노이즈주, 시카고 출생. 노스웨스턴 대학을 졸업하였다. 그는 여배우 캐롤리 카멜로와 결혼하였고 슬하에 14살 딸인 조와 아들 이든을 두고 뉴저지주 레오니아에서 살고 있다. 1979년 브로드웨이에 올려진 뮤지컬 <Evita>로 데뷔하였고, 1987년 브로드웨이 리바이벌 뮤지컬 <Cabaret>에 클리프로 출연하였다.
