미국 배우. 영화 <M.A.S.H>에 출연하여 잘 알려진 배우이며, TV 시리즈물에 주로 출연하였다. <Benson>으로 에미어워드에 노미네이트 되었고, <Star Trek: Deep Space Nine>, <Boston Legal> 등에 출연하였다.
뉴욕 출생. 그의 아버지는 스위스 외국 특파원으로 퓰리처 상에 노미네이트 된 인물이다. 줄리어드 대학을 졸업하였고, 씨어터 컴퍼니에서 연극을 시작하였고, 워싱턴, 로스 앤젤리스 등의 무대에서 일을 하였다. 그는 브로드웨이에 1968년에 연극 <King Lear>로 데뷔하게 되었고, 주로 연극에 출연하였다. 후에는 뮤지컬 <Coco<, <Big River>, <City of Angels>에도 출연하였다.
그는 영화와 TV에 출연하였다. 1988년 <Police Academy 5: Assignment Mami Beach, 1988>, <The Patriot, 2000>, <Batman Forever>, <McCabe & Mrs. Miller, 1971>, <Inspector Gadget, 1999>에 출연하였다.
